| FESTIVALS - KARWA CHAUTHA |
| Karwa Chautha is celebrated on the fourth day of the
month Karttika and is celebrtaed by women all over North India in honour of Shiva
and Parvati for the welfare of the husbands. An earthen pot with a spot called
the Karwa is decorated using coloured paste made from rice and is used in the
worship. images of the sun, moon and the Karwa are drawn on the ground and when
the full moon appears water and flowers are offered to the deities and break their
fast. Mothers send gifts of clothes, ornaments and sweets to their daughters and
women gather and talk about past festivals. |
