NEW YORK - Eros Entertainment, a leader in Indian
cinema, proudly announces the release of the groundbreaking new romantic
comedy AMERICAN DESI from writer/director Piyush Dinker Pandya. This
exciting picture is the first film to celebrate the colorful lives of
Indian college students growing up in the United States and features a
talented and sexy young cast of stars. Eros will release the film on
Friday, March 16, 2001 exclusively in theaters throughout the United
States and Canada and will subsequently open around the world soon
after.

This historic motion picture marks the first fully English-language
movie released by Eros which has taken Hollywood by storm in recent
years with the box office success of several Hindi films. Despite
playing in limited runs, the distributor’s popular titles like "Taal,"
"Hum Saath-Saath Hain," and "Josh" have all reached the North American
Top 20 alongside megabudgeted films from the big U.S. studios. AMERICAN
DESI represents the next step in the evolution of Indian cinema in the
United States by playing to South Asians as well as to American
moviegoers.

Deep Katdare stars as Krishna Reddy, a young Indian man born in America
who is out of touch with his Eastern heritage. After being assigned
desi roommates in college, and meeting the captivating Nina Shah (played
by Purva Bedi), he finds himself discovering the culture he never knew
through bhangra parties, Indian student club activities, and Navaratri
garbas. AMERICAN DESI aims to challenge the stereotypes that exist of
Indians with a diverse set of characters in situations that all people
can relate to. Filmed entirely in the United States, it celebrates the
lives of an important group that has made significant contributions to
American society in a short period of time.
