Evergreen Star of the Millennium - DEV ANAND

A special "Evergreen Star of the Millennium" award for lifetime achievements will be given to ever green actor, Dev Anand at the Bollywood Awards on April 28th 2001 at the Nassau Coliseum, New York.Dev Anand whose real name is Devdutt Pishorimal Anand was born on September 26, 1923 in Gurdaspur, Punjab. Before joining films, he worked in army's correspondence censor department on a salary of Rs 60 per month. Obviously

inspired by Gregory Peck, he has a charisma about him, which held a sway on female audience.

His is the name that's almost always preceded by the phrase ' ever green hero '. Dev Anand still commands the allure and fancy of the masses that could make many a star green with envy. He dresses with the same éclat and style one has always associated him with and his manners are charming as ever, making girls swoon even now, with his chivalry and old-world grace.

From his debut-making Hum Ek Hain released over 50 years ago, to his latest Censor, it has been a haul for Dev Anand. His films like Baazi, C.I.D, Kala Bazar, Hum Dono, Tere Ghar Ke Saamne, Jab Pyaar Kisi Se Hota Hai grew Anand's romantic hero image. He married actress Kalpana Kartik and many girls saw their love shattering into pieces. As a director, Hare Ram Hare Krishna, was a big hit and thus established a place for this hero. Awal Number, Pyar Ka Tarana, Gangster, Return Of Jewel Thief are the few among the many of his hits. Jewel Thief was a super hit movie, which had melodious

song numbers and suspense thriller. Guide had altogether a different story and his performance even fetched him an award. Dev Anand also won the Best Actor award for his dazzling role in Kala Paani.
